The Weerribben-Wieden is one of the most important wetlands in the Netherlands. The area consists of reed marshes, swamps and wet grasslands. Therefore it is also the place where birds are happy there. Thus, among others, the bittern, crake, purple heron and black tern here to breed.
Other typical birds of the area are the Golden Oriole, Marsh harrier, bearded tit and bluethroat.
